Robert E. Nowlin received his BSEE from the University of Arkansas in 1966.  In addition to that degree, he also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the U of A, and a Master of Sciences in Telecommunications Management from Southern Methodist University.  Following graduation from the U of A, he joined IBM Federal Systems Division at the Kennedy Space Center as a Junior/Associate Engineer.  In that position, he was the project manager of a 50 plus team to install, test and activate the entire launch facility for the Apollo/Saturn V manned space vehicle.  He remained with IBM in various capacities and in various locations through his retirement in 2006.  He has over 40 years in computer/electrical engineering fields working as consultant/project/systems engineer, with the focus of the past 10 years being on network/communications project management/education skills.  He has been involved with U.S. Defense work including leading a five-person team to specify, develop and test satellite tracking applications to improve trajectory accuracy in excess of 90%.  He has received numerous formal, informal and field awards from IBM.  He has served IEEE in various capacities, and is an IEEE Senior Member.  Following retirement, Edge completed education and certification testing to become a Certified PADI Assistant Instructor.  For several years thereafter, while his wife relaxed on the beach, he spent time working diving boats teaching and conducting regular and shark feeding dives in the Caribbean.  A couple of years into this activity he became interested in singing, and that eventually led to a degree in music.  During that time, he and his wife, Debbie, went on a mission to Washington State and had the opportunity to build an 80-voice choir which performed each month to audiences from 300-900 people.  Upon returning to Fayetteville, he joined the Singing Men of Arkansas, where he still performs.  In 2011, Edge completed requirements for the ham radio General class license, giving him the three items needed to complete his age 10 bucket list of being a pilot, ham and SCUBA diver.  He has been heavily involved with politics, supporting candidates that demonstrate the integrity needed to strengthen our community and state.  He actively supports the Springdale Chamber of Commerce, the American Legion, and is a member of Kiwanis.  Edge and Debbie live in Fayetteville, and have six children, 20 grand-children, and four great-grandchildren.  Debbie, his wife of 56 years, is also a graduate of the U of A, having received her BSN in 2017.  He brags on her being a past Mother of the Year for the State of Arkansas, and she is now President of a local women’s political organization.
