William and Margaret Brown Faculty and Staff Awards
Dr. and Mrs. Brown started this award in 2008, to recognize “outstanding performance by a faculty member and a staff member of the Department of Electrical Engineering” on an annual basis, with a monetary award. An individual can receive the award only one (1) time within a three (3) year period. The criterion for selection is based on productivity and collegiality.
The Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineering presents these awards during its annual induction banquet.

Biography:
William D. Brown received a B.S. degree in 1969 from the University of Arkansas, a M.S. degree from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, in 1970, and a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, in 1975. From 1969 to 1977, he was a Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. In 1977, he joined the faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas. He served as Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering from 1983 to 1998, and again, from 2006-2007. He also served as the Associate Dean for Research in the College of Engineering from 1998 to 2007. His research interests included microelectronic materials and devices, solid-state and semiconductor physics, and electronic packaging. Bill’s research resulted in over 370 conference presentations, over 350 technical journal/proceedings publications, and 15 U.S. patents.
Dr. Brown passed away in March of 2017.
